Longhouse Bay Getaway is a rural waterfront property in the heart of Secret Cove, Halfmoon Bay. Located 20 minutes north of Sechelt in the Secret Cove district, Longhouse bay is rural yet close to many amenities. The property is unique in that we host a wetland and a wetland recovery area, forested acreage and open low and high bank waterfront. Tucked into a little cove, we have names Longhouse Bay; we lay protected from the storms. The little bay is a beautiful swim area in the summer and now hosts a dock and launch area. Most of our living area is located along the waterfront, with Willis taking great care with joining deck and boardwalks. A little BC history still remains and you can see the old boom anchors along the shoreline that take us back to an earlier era. This unique property has historical value of the post-depression era and the original 2 bedroom cottage; still maintains the central 400 square foot depression cabin easily outlined with its curved ceilings; now fully renovated and modernly decorated, but in its’ day, if you were unemployed, you and your family would be sent to a work camp and be given a home for your family to live in. Small 400 square foot cottages dotted this 1 mile stretch of coastline but very few remaining today. You will enjoy this historical cottage, fully restored into a beautiful 2 bedroom home.
Our expansion added the master bedroom, featuring vaulted cedar ceilings, double mirrored closets and cedar lined closets and small built in entertainment centre and waterfront view through large sliding doors that access the Longhouse and other outdoor areas. The 2nd bedroom features double sized bunk beds, with separate patio entrance and garden views.
A bright modern central bathroom features full tiled glass shower, and two piece bath, skylight and lots of storage.
The kitchen area, part of the main depression cottage, now fully renovated in bright white cabinetry, and stocked with everything you will need for your vacation; if required, the longhouse holds additional kitchen elements. In addition, your 2 bedroom cottage has a flat screen TV and cable with couch and loveseat, featuring many pieces of original art throughout, a desk, WIFI, and hardwood floors. The lower sun room has additional leather seating, a single pull-out coffee table and pine dining table and chairs for 6. Here you will find some decor created from old logging booms and beach-wood.
One of the most striking waterfront views on the coast, you can see the water from the kitchen dining and living areas. In all weather, you will enjoy the Longhouse, Decorated in old comfy furniture that you can cuddle up in, lots or original art pieces and dining for 10.
This natural post and beam and glass area is outdoor living expanding into nature. Build by Willis 4 years ago, the trees came from our forest, we fell, hand peeled and timbered the posts, milled some for the beautiful ceiling creating a warm and inviting entertainment area. The Longhouse is a peaceful and unique place to spend your time, close to the water and in local eagle nesting grounds, watch the sea life out front. This central gathering area joins the octagon deck with its massive outdoor fireplace, dining and lounge chairs, further to the left, the hot tub deck, more boardwalks, path leading to our waterfront patio with propane fire-pit, additional dining and lounge area attached to our seasonal dock. All common area all that registered guests are able to enjoy.
Bring a boat and launch right from our property. Kayak rentals, lots of local hiking trails and two beautiful waterfront restaurants close by, or have a personal chef called in for a special evening.
Both entrepreneur’s, Willis a builder and Adele was a restaurateur, Art gallery owner, now a both a human and Veterinary Homeopath. We enjoy our lifestyle on the Sunshine Coast, a place we chose to live long ago and still enjoying it today.

// Why I am opening my apartment to guests //

I’m excited to open my home in Xining City, Qinghai Province, China to visitors so that more people can understand local culture and the natural environment of the Himalayas.

// The Region //

Xining is an excellent jumping off point for the famous treks of western China, grassland visits, and visits to the Tibetan Autonomous Region. Many say that there are more opportunities to interact with minority cultures (Tibetan, Hui, Salar, Mongour, Uigher, Yi, and so forth) than in other areas of China due to the low level of commercialization in this region. Visiting Qinghai is not for the timid of heart, but it may yield some big rewards for those truly interested in understanding life in rural west China.

In the winter, the grasslands dry out and become a wash of brittle, golden strokes against the backdrop of stark red and gray mountains jutting up to snow-capped peaks. In the summer, the grasslands are lush and green, dotted with wildflowers, nomadic tents, and herds of yaks. The wild irises are particularly beautiful.

The region is best known for its hiking, cultural exchanges, and as a center of Tibetan culture and art. Numerous other ethnic minority groups also have strong cultural centers in this region. Several famous monasteries and universities are located here. Qinghai Lake–the highest altitude salt lake in the world–is also just 2 hours from my home with a bus that runs there regularly.

// The Neighborhood //

Qinghai Normal University, Xining Botanical Gardens, Xining Zoo, Lake Garden, and Xining Square are all within easy walking distance as are all of the cities major public transportation lines.

// Educational/Medical/Development Groups //

If you are in Qinghai to do something that benefits local people, I’ll give you a huge discount so let me know in advance! If you are renting from me, it means I’m working in my office in Hong Kong or else out in the grasslands, and won’t get the chance to meet you so please leave me your business card so I can follow your work!

// Comparison to other options //

(1) Hotels in this district and other areas near Xining center will run you 300-900 RMB/night for a single or double room, depending on quality and street safety (for a private room with bathroom)

(2) Hostels typically run 50-80 RMB/person/night in summer and 30-60 RMB/person/night in winter (for a shared 6 person room with shared hall bathroom)

(3) My place is cheaper if you have have have a group of 4 or more; and more pleasant if privacy and relaxation are a priority for you.

// Internet //

The apartment isn’t set up for wireless, but if you will need internet while you are in town, I will have a wireless card waiting for you upon arrival.
